Recently I have purchased a new VHF/UHF mobile radio, the Retevis RT-95 to replace my QYT 8900D. It has in every respect been an effective upgrade.
This radio is being sold under a number of brands such as the CRT Micron and the Anytone at-778uv, they are all however identical in everything but the name itself.
In comparsion to my QYT radio, it is clearer on both receive and transmit, every contact I have made on PMR446 on the Retevis has been met with comments regarding the improved audio. The previous QYT had issues on receive being insensitive to distant signals as well
Not only in RF performance the Retevis has outperformed my QYT in terms of features, the QYT had many firmware bugs including the inability to scan properly and the squelch not opening on certain signals to the point where I had to resort to leaving the squelch open when using the radio, which is very unpleasant as I had to to listen to the static. Retevis has suffered from no issues so far and has a much more pleasant clear display than the QYT, albeit with less customability on the text colours.
The radios menus are easy to navigate with the microphone having control keys on itself or alternatively by using the function keys on the front panel of the radio. The menu itself is intuiative and easy to understand.
Scanning on this radio is slow but managable, when not in use I will have it scanning the 16 PMR446 channels for activity. The signal meter is easier to read than the QYT with numbers denoting the signal strength allowing you to read back an accurate signal report to the person you are talking to.
The radio also came with a programming cable, programming the radio itself was simple and the software itself was easy to use, however I must note that the radio would not respond to CHIRP despite CHIRP offering compatability, this is only a minor issue as the radio can still be programmed with the original Retevis software avaliable for download from the Retevis website.
In conclusion this radio is in my view far superior to the QYT 8900D and if you are deciding on which UHF/VHF mobile radio to buy, I would recommend this radio.
Good read. At one point I think everybody had crt microns really good little radios
